My research interest and experience

My research interests focus on identifying key mutations governing quantitative and qualitative traits of poultry and breeding of Lueyang black-boned chickens, a Chinese indigenous chicken for higher growth and egg production. I devoted myself to reveal molecular mechanisms controlling appetite and energy balance in the chickens. In this field I have done much work to identify functional variants regulating expression of CCKAR gene which was closely associated with the satiety and the growth of chicken.I am interested to identify genetic variants affecting development of early follicles and egg production of chickens.Several genes that are involved in recruitment and selectionof early follicles and transmembrane transport of yolk were studied in my lab. In addition to economic traits, I worked on identifying the mutations controlling eggshell color. Through linkage mapping and candidate gene study, we successfully recognized blue egg gene as a retrovirus insertion in 5’flanking region of SLCO1B3. Recently, I am interested to find out causative mutations controlling other eggshell color and to reveal evolution process of the blue egg phenotype of difference birds based on our understanding of the molecular mechanisms.
