REASEARCH

(1)Application of Nanotechnology in the Basic and Applied Research in Aquaculture

Our team has created a multi-valent or multi-conjugate nanoparticle-based immersion vaccine system for diseases prevention and control such as grass carp reovirus, koi spring viremia of carp virus, flounder iridovirus, and so on. This nano-system achieves 65%-95% immune protection for aquatic animals through a single immersion immunization. Currently, some vaccines have entered the stage of applying for new veterinary drug approvals, with the possibility of obtaining 2-3 new veterinary drug certificates for promotion and application. Building upon this foundation, further research has been conducted on degradable, high-safety, and lower-cost organic nanoparticle carriers.

(2)Innovation and Creation of Natural and GreenAquacultureDrugs

After more than 20 years of research, over 30 species with excellent insecticidal and antiviral activity have been selected from more than 800 traditional Chinese medicinal herbs. More than 20 active molecules, including sanguinarine, arctigenin, berberine, and magnolol, have been isolated and identified. Organic chemistry synthesis methods have been used to study the structure-activity relationship of these anti-parasitic/virusmolecules, resulting in a series of novel coumarin and lignin derivatives, laying the foundation for the transformation and application for national veterinary drug raw materials. Recently, various active molecules' drug target has been identified using omics techniques, revealing their mechanisms of action. This provides a scientific basis for the application and promotion of new raw materials for anti-parasitic/anti-virus drugs in aquaculture.

(3)Biotechnological Breeding of Disease-resistant Aquatic Animal Seedlings

Targeting important aquatic pathogens such as grass carp reovirus (GCRV), spring viremia of carp virus (SVCV), white spot syndrome virus (WSSV), and nervous necrosis virus (NNV), a multi-target nanoparticle drug delivery system was developed in conjunction with inorganic nanoparticle carriers and virus-targeted drug delivery technology. This system achieves a killing efficiency of 90%-100% against aquatic viruses through a single immersion method, resulting in an increase of 50%-90% or more in the survival rate of aquatic animals. Combined with the state of the art in CRISPR/Cas system, new disease resistant fish species will be create. This research provides a theoretical and technical foundation for the healthy development of the aquatic animal disease-resistant vaccine and biological breeding industry in the future.
