Linsen Zan

     

Ⅰ. Personal information

Zan Linsen, Ph.D, Professor, doctoral supervisor,NPC deputy,enjoying special government allowances of State Council. Prof. Zan has been engaged in teaching, scientific research, and technology promotion of genetic improvement of beef and dairy cattle, biotechnology breeding, healthy aquaculture, as well as industrialization engineering. Currently, he serves as the head of the Beef Cattle Research Center of Northwest A&F University and the National Beef Cattle Improvement Center, deputy head of the National Beef Cattle Genetic Improvement Program Expert Group, committee member of the Cattle Breed Validation Committee of the National Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources Committee, scientist of the National Beef Cattle and Yak Industrial Technology System, and the vice president of the Cattle Branch of the China Animal Husbandry Association. Moreover, he takes charge as the vice chairman of the China Improved Yellow Cattle Breeding Committee, executive director of the Dairy Association, and the head of the Shaanxi Beef Industry Engineering Technology Research Center.

Since his working years, Prof. Zan has presided over or mainly participated in more than forty science and technology plan projects, including at the national, provincial, or ministry level. Among all the completions, two won the first & second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and twenty-one won the provincial awards. Including the provincial teaching achievement grand prize (one) and the provincial science & technology achievement prizes (ten First, nine Second, and five Third). As of today, he has published over four hundred academic papers (over 230 of which are included in SCI and EI) and twenty textbooks, obtained over thirty patents, and compiled over fifty national & industrial standards. Furthermore, he was honored as “National Outstanding Scientific and Technological Worker,” “National Outstanding Talents of Agricultural Scientific Research,” “National Model of Agricultural Science and Technology Promotion,” “Advanced Workers of China’s Animal Husbandry Industry,” “National Advanced Workers of Cattle Breeding and Improvement,” “Top Ten Outstanding Young People of Shaanxi Province,” “Shaanxi Provincial Three-Five Talents,” “Outstanding Expert of Yangling Demonstration Area,” “Top Talent of Northwest A&F University.” He has received funding from the 7th Youth Science and Technology Award of the Chinese Society of Agriculture and the 5th Huo Yingdong Education Fund. Moreover, he has received the CCTV Agriculture Award,the Baosteel Outstanding Teacher Award, the Contribution Award to Revitalizing China’s Animal Husbandry, the Special Award for China’s Invention and Entrepreneurship, and the Outstanding Contribution Award for China's Industry-academy-research Cooperation.

Currently, his part-time social appointments include being Deputy to the 13th National People's Congress, Member of the Standing Committee and the Deputy Director of the Agriculture Committee of the China Democratic League Central Committee,and the Deputy Chairman of the Shaanxi Provincial Committee of the China Democratic League. Moreover, he holds the post of vicepresident of the Shaanxi Provincial Association of Knowledge, an advisory expert to the Shaanxi Provincial People's Congress Standing Committee, and the director of the China Democratic League Yangling Demonstration Zone's working committee.

Genetic improvement of beef and dairy cattle; Biotechnology breeding and healthy aquaculture; Regulation of animal growth and development; Conservation of biodiversity.

1. National Natural Science Foundation of China, Screening and functional analysis of key long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) influenced intramuscular fat deposition of Qinchuan cattle (31972994).

2. CARS of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Finance, National Beef yak industry technology system (CARS-37).

3. The Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Finance guide the local special project, Qinchuan beef cattle efficient breeding and healthful aquaculture technology innovation and demonstration (2060404-51301).

Ⅴ. Team and platform

Based on Prof. Zan’s recommendation and declaration, his team won the title of the "Genetic Improvement and Germplasm Innovation Team for Beef Cattle and Dairy Cattle" and "Genetic Improvement and Biotechnology Breeding Innovation Team for Beef Cattle." And have been supported by "The Changjiang Scholars and Innovation Team Development Program of the Ministry of Education" and the "National Agricultural Research Outstanding Talents and Innovation Team Support Program" of the Ministry of Agriculture. The research team comprises twenty-two scientific and educational personnel, including eight professors, twelve associate professors, and two lecturers or research assistants. It was recognized as the excellent innovation team of the Ministry of Agriculture in 2015.

The team predominantly tends to rely on the National Beef Cattle Improvement Center, the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center of Modern Cattle Biotechnology and Application, the Key Open Laboratory of Animal Biotechnology of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Yellow Cattle Research Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture, and Shaanxi Beef Cattle Engineering Technology Research Center. Except for that, the team relies on the Shaanxi Modern Cattle Engineering Research Center, Shaanxi Dairy Engineering Technology Research Center, Shaanxi High-quality Beef Production and Processing Project Technology Research Center, Shaanxi Province Qinchuan Beef Cattle Breeding Center, Western High-end Beef Cattle Industry Development Research Institute, Yichuan Beef Cattle Industry Research Institute and other platforms.
